William G. Johnston, III, was born in Fort Benning, Georgia. He graduated from the University of Georgia with a B.S. in Microbiology in 1986 and received his J.D. from the University of Georgia in 1990. Mr. Johnston was admitted to the Georgia Bar in 1990. He worked with the firm of Gardner, Willis, Sweat & Goldsmith in Albany, Georgia for four years before moving his practice to Griffin in 1994. He concentrates his practice primarily in the areas of commercial, corporate and business litigation, medical and professional negligence and malpractice, banking and finance law, construction law, probate law, zoning law, and criminal law. He is active in several community organizations including the Hope Health Clinic, the Boy Scouts of America, the Griffin-Daybreak Rotary Club, and Griffin’s First United Methodist Church.

Lance N. Owen was born in Fort Walton Beach, Florida. He received a B.A. in Political Science in 1992 from the University of Georgia. He received his J.D. in 1995 from the University of Memphis. He was admitted to the Georgia Bar in 1995. Mr. Owen worked with Shepherd & Johnston for seven years before forming the partnership of Shepherd, Johnston & Owen, predecessor to Johnston, Owen and Bullard, in 2003. He concentrates his practice primarily in the areas of divorce and custody law, adoption law, personal injury law, wrongful death law, probate law, and general litigation.


Edward R.T. Bullard was born in Griffin, Georgia. He received a B.A. in English in 1998 from the University of Georgia. He received his J.D. from Louisiana State University in 2001. He was admitted to the Georgia Bar in 2001. Mr. Bullard worked with Newton & Howell in Griffin before coming to work with the predecessor firm of Shepherd, Johnston & Owen in 2002. He concentrates his practice in real estate law, banking and finance law, commercial litigation, and probate law.


Brennan T. MacDowell was born in Sacramento, California. He graduated from California State University, Sacramento with a B.A. in Asian Studies and Japanese in 1996. He received his J.D. from the University of Hawaii in 2001. Prior to being called to the bar in Georgia in 2006, Mr. MacDowell served in the United States Marine Corps, including a tour in Iraq, and joined Shepherd, Johnston & Owen as a clerk and then as an associate in 2006. His practice is focused in the areas of commercial, corporate and business litigation, construction law, probate law, personal injury law, and real estate law.


Of Counsel

Timothy N. Shepherd was born in Griffin, Georgia. He graduated from the University of Georgia with a B.A. in Political Science in 1978 and obtained his J.D. from the University of Georgia in 1981. He was admitted to the Georgia Bar in 1981. He worked with the firm of Heard, Leverette & Adams in Elberton, Georgia for two years before returning to his hometown of Griffin in 1984. Mr. Shepherd formed the partnership of Mullins, Whalen & Shepherd in Griffin in 1986. In 1994, Mr. Shepherd formed the partnership of Shepherd & Johnston with William G. Johnston, and became Of Counsel in 2006 to the current firm. Mr. Shepherd concentrates his practice primarily in the areas of education law, local government law, personal injury law, medical malpractice law, wrongful death law, employment law, divorce and custody law, and criminal law.
